CVP's New AIRWIRE™ Battery We searched high and low for a suitable battery along with a matching charger at an affordable price. While you are not required to use our recommended battery pack and charger, our battery packs offer the best performance without any compromise among many factors such as safety, power, size, weight, voltage, motor noise and lifetime.

Lithium-Ion Chemistry - Recognized as the "standard", Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries have long lives, lots of power and relatively small physical size.

14.8 Volts - This voltage is the best option for long range radio operation. Higher voltage causes much more interference to be generated by locomotive motors which can impair distant radio operation. Higher battery voltages are not recommended since they will wear out locomotive wheel treads and axle bearings much faster.

Higher Power Capacity - The CVP battery packs offer as much as 55% more power capacity yet are no larger than other less powerful packs. For example, the 14.8V 6800 mAh BATT2 pack is the same size as our original 4400mAh battery but has 55% more power capacity. The BATT2 battery can power the average USA-Trains 2-motor diesel locomotive for more than 3 hours.

Uses Superior Lithium-Ion Cells - The cells inside each CVP battery pack are manufactured by Panasonic/Sanyo, a trusted and well known Japanese battery manufacturer. Each cell undergoes rigid quality testing before being assembled into a CVP battery pack.

Highest Peak Load Rating - G scale locomotives require high starting currents for locomotives with a single motor. If the loco has 2 motors, the starting current is doubled. The new CVP Battery packs are specified to deliver more than 10 Amps for a short period of time (a burst or surge) without shutting down. Don't be fooled by similar looking batteries from other vendors. If the peak rating of the battery is not stated, then expect the worst - expect it to shut down if peak exceeds more than a couple of amps.

Fully Protected The new CVP battery pack includes an internal circuit board that prevents the battery pack from short circuits, overloads as well as automatic cutoff when the battery is fully discharged. The internal board also protects during charging to prevent over charging. The built in protection is what ensures the new CVP battery provides many years of trouble-free use.

Pre-Installed Battery Connector Each CVP battery pack already includes a pre-mounted 2.5mm JST connector. No soldering or splicing necessary for Drop-In™ and Plug-In™ decoders. Additional connectors and extensions are available separately. See the caution note below if you intend to use the new battery on older Drop-In or Plug-In decoders.

Li-Ion Smart Charger

The Li-Ion Smart Charger The matching smart charger works off any household line voltage from 90 to 240V 50/60Hz. The line cord is included. It features a 1.5A charging current for fast and safe charging.

Fast Charging - The Smart Charger can charge a completely discharged pack in only a few hours. Feel free to leave the charger plugged in since the built in microprocessor will automatically cut off power when the battery is fully charged.

Indicator Status Lights Included - The indicator lights show red when charging and green with the battery is fully charged. Included with the charger are a pair of spare fuses along with the appropriate connectors.

Small Size - Measuring only 1.5 x 1 x 4 inches and weighing less than 5 ounces, it fits nearly anywhere.

Two Adapters Included (not shown) - Included with the charger is a 2.1mm DC power plug to fit Drop-In decoders plus a male 2.5mm JST connector that fits the new BATT2 connector.

Low Cost - This amazing little charger is priced so low that you should plan on each of your locomotives having their own charger.

A Tip From The Pro

Higher amp-hour capacity batteries may be used although as capacity goes up, so does the price, the size, the weight and the need for a specialized charger. If these factors are less important than battery life, by all means use the higher capacity batteries. Be sure to obtain a matching charger and for the best radio range, stay with the 14.8V rating.
